Song ‘HerO’ Hyeon Deok is a Protoss player for Team Liquid. HerO was one of the very first South Korean pro gamers to be signed to a team that was owned and managed outside of South Korea.
HerO’s lifetime prize earnings total over $200,000, with his first big tournament payout being DreamHack Winter 2011, netting him $29,600. Since then, HerO has amassed 4 more major tournament victories and cemented himself as one of the most recognizable and loved players in StarCraft II.
HerO became the first StarCraft II player to ever win two DreamHacks by taking down DreamHack Winter 2011 and DreamHack Winter 2012.
In 2013, HerO earned over $52,000 in prize money. He began the year with a third place finish at DreamHack Open Stockholm and quickly followed up with a first place finish for WCS America Season 1. The rest of the year was filled with top 10 finishes in other tournaments, and allowed him to be ranked high enough to attend the 2013 WCS Global Finals at BlizzCon.
HerO entered the 2013 WCS Global Finals ranked 5th, and faced sOs in the first round. Although HerO was the higher seed, it would be sOs who would take the series 3-1 and continue all the way through the finals to win the 2013 WCS Championship title.
